PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
On August 19, 2019, City Council approved to initiate a City of Laredo Poet Laurate program. On December 7, 2020, Rosa Maria De Llano was appointed to the first City of Laredo Poet Laureate by City Council; On November 25, 2022, City Council reappointed Rosa Maria De Llano for an additional year due to having been appointed during the COVID pandemic.
BACKGROUND
On August 19, 2019, City Council voted to initiate a City of Laredo Poet Laurate program. The Fine Arts & Culture Commission was tasked with creating the guidelines and criteria for the program.

The individual selected will serve a two-year term and will receive an honorarium of $1,500 per year. Funding is available in the Library’s General Fund line item 101-3510-553-5578 (Special events). Funding for future years will be contingent on availability of budget funds.
