BACKGROUND
The National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO), with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has launched the Wastewater Surveillance Mentorship Program. This initiative connects local health departments with expertise in wastewater surveillance to enhance public health responses. As part of this program, the City of Laredo Public Health Department will gain access to specialized tools and resources for detecting SARS-CoV-2 and other pathogens through wastewater testing, providing an early warning system to help address emerging public health threats quickly and effectively.
