Consideration to authorize the purchase of custom police badges for the Laredo Police Department 175th Anniversary directly from sole source, Smith & Warren, White Plains, NY, in the amount of $55,000.00. The police department has redesigned the police badge for all ranks and with this purchase a new badge will be provided to all sworn personnel for the 175th Anniversary. Funding is available in the Police Trust Fund.

BACKGROUND
Authorization is requested for the purchase of 550 new badges for the Laredo Police Department. Purchase will be directly with manufacture.
Smith & Warren is one of the largest badge and insignia manufacturers in the United States and has been in the business of metal badge and insignia manufacturing since 1925. Smith & Warren operates out of a single secured facility located in White Plains, NY. No subcontractors or contract labor are used in the manufacturing process. This allows Smith & Warren to maintain consistent high-quality standards and to meet delivery deadlines. Smith & Warren is the only manufacturer of badges in the United States that does all work in-house without the use of subcontractors or contract labor for any processes.
All repairs and refinishing are to be performed at no cost to the Laredo Police Department. This includes service required due to manufacturer defects as well as normal wear and tear and the badge has full lifetime warranty.
