A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Laredo, Texas, authorizing the City Manager to submit a grant application in the amount of $233,730.00 to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), for the funding of FY 2024 Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Policy and Implementation Program for the period of October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2027 (36 months). The federal share is in the amount of $90,000.00 and the City will be responsible for a required to match of $143,730.00. Funding will be accounted for in the Special Police Fund.

BACKGROUND
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) offers the Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program to Support Law Enforcement Agencies. This program furthers the Department’s mission by promoting the safety of law enforcement officers and citizens. The intent of the program is to help agencies develop, implement, and evaluate a BWC program to improve officer safety, enhance evidentiary value, and enhance officer interactions in ways that contribute to building community trust and facilitating cooperative engagements.
