Beginning Jan 2, 2026 all initial registrations - $300
Registration after 2 years of vacancy - $500
Registration after 3 years and beyond of vacancy - $750
Late Registration Fee $100

Summary of alignment: The plan recommends creating a Vacant Building Ordinance to encourage the use and rehabilitation of existing structures instead of leaving them vacant, which detracts from the vibrancy of downtown.The performance of the ordinance must be monitored, particularly to ensure it does not lead to insensitive renovations or demolition of historic buildings.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
At the August 16, 2021 Council Meeting, City Council approved Ordinance No. 2021-O-152 adding a “Vacant Building Registration” to Chapter 7 of the Code of Ordinances. City Council took this action recognizing the increase in the number of vacant and abandoned properties throughout the Downtown area, and that blight has a negative effect on adjacent property owners.
