BACKGROUND

The Health and Human Services Commission continues to contract with the City
of Laredo to provide public health preventive and acute patient care and early detection screening patient care services for the uninsured, underserved and medically indigent of Laredo through the City of Laredo Public Health Department. Through the Primary Care Program "La Familia,” the Public Health Department provides comprehensive health services targeted at the family unit, including immunizations, diagnosis and treatment, early detection, family planning, health education, diagnostic tests, and intensive case management for the family at risk of acute and chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease).
