Title: Authorizing the City Manager to ratify the acceptance of a grant in the amount of $24,999.75 from the Texas Department of Transportation for the enforcement of Vehicle Occupant Protection during the "Click It or Ticket" (CIOT) Campaign. The grant period for FY2024 CIOT will begin May 17, 2024 through June 05, 2024. This grant funding is to pay overtime salaries for officers to conduct intense occupant protection enforcement in order to increase occupant restraint use in all passenger vehicles and trucks. The City of Laredo is responsible for a required match of $7,749.92, available in the project funds from General Fund, for a total project amount of $32,749.67. Funding is available in the Special Police Fund.

2024.

 

BACKGROUND

The Texas Department of Transportation has made a grant entitled Operation Slowdown available to the Laredo Police Department. These grant funds will intensify enforcement through overtime that places primary emphasis on speed limits during the annual “Be Safe. Drive Safe. - Drive a Safe Speed” Campaign. The objective of this collaborative project is to remind motorists that speeding increases the risk of death and serious injury in a collision in efforts to decrease fatalities involving speed.
