A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Laredo, Texas authorizing the City Manager to ratify the acceptance of a grant in the amount of $29,999.96 from the Texas Department of Transportation for the enforcement of speed violations during the “Be Safe. Drive Smart. - Drive a Safe Speed” Operation Slowdown Campaign. The grant period for FY2025 Operation Slowdown will begin July 15, 2025 through August 06, 2025. This grant is to pay overtime salaries and fringe benefits for officers to conduct intense speed limit enforcement in efforts to decrease traffic fatalities involving speed. The city will be responsible for a required match of $9,299.95, from the General Fund, for a project total of $39,299.95. Funding is available in the Special Police Fund.

BACKGROUND
The Texas Department of Transportation has made a grant entitled Operation Slowdown available to the Laredo Police Department. These grant funds will intensify
enforcement through overtime that places primary emphasis on speed limits during the annual “Be Safe. Drive Safe. - Drive a Safe Speed” Campaign. The objective of this
collaborative project is to remind motorists that speeding increases the risk of death and
serious injury in a collision in efforts to decrease fatalities involving speed.
