BACKGROUND
The Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is designed to strengthen law enforcement across Texas. Agencies must demonstrate compliance with a set of “Best Practices” developed specifically for Texas law-enforcement operations. These Best Practices cover many operational areas including use of force, pursuits, search & seizure, custody of prisoners, internal investigations, property/evidence management, etc. By achieving accreditation, a law enforcement agency demonstrates that it has reviewed and aligned its policies, procedures, training, and operations with established professional standards. It helps reduce risk (legal, liability, operational), improve consistency and transparency, and bolster community trust.
