BACKGROUND
The Homeland Security Grants Division (HSGD) of the Governor's Office is soliciting applications for projects that support state and local efforts to prevent terrorism and other catastrophic events and prepare for the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk to the security of Texas citizens.

Funding for this project will enhance the capability of the LPD Bomb Squad Unit technicians to detect and resolve threats involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) devices or weapons of mass destruction (WWD). The funding will be used to purchase a portable x-ray system to screen suspicious packages. The unit serves as a regional response team and supports, via a task force, the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) Laredo office. It remains LPD's priority to have equipment to be able to prevent and protect against terrorist attacks in the City of Laredo and the metropolitan area in the South Texas Development Council (STDC) region. The goal of this unit is to deter and disrupt threats of terrorism attacks at the earliest point possible. This involves responding to countless reports of federal agencies. Funding for this project will ensure the safety of LPD Bomb Unit technicians while performing their duties.
