PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
On October 19, 2020, Council approved the creation of the committee.

BACKGROUND
The Municipal Hospital Authority Ad-Hoc Committee was established by City Council on October 19, 2020, to explore the feasibility of establishing a municipal hospital authority and to address the medical needs and medical bed capacity of the community. As the healthcare needs of the community continue to evolve, the role of the committee has expanded to include broader discussions regarding healthcare access, hospital services, public health priorities, healthcare system improvements, and collaboration among local healthcare providers and community partners. Renaming the Municipal Hospital Authority Ad-Hoc Committee to the Community Healthcare Advisory Committee will better reflect the committee’s broader purpose and ongoing role in evaluating community healthcare needs and providing recommendations to City Council. The name change will also provide a more inclusive representation of the committee’s focus on improving access to healthcare services, strengthening partnerships, and addressing current and emerging healthcare needs within the City of Laredo.
