Title: Authorizing the City Manager to purchase twenty-nine fast-fare fareboxes from Sole Source provider GFI Genfare in the total amount of $620,013.48 this will be an upgrade to the current fareboxes on El Metro Fix Route Buses. The fast-fare boxes are an all in one, customizable farebox that quickly accepts, validates, and processes whichever form of payment the riders choose to use at the time of boarding the bus. Funding is available in two FTA grants; TX-2023-088 and TX-2024-001.

BACKGROUND

The Fast Fare is easy to use and requires minimal driver interaction. The full color passenger display and audible signals simplify fare payment.

The Fast Fare is configured to accept multiple forms of payment chosen by the transit agency, and can be reconfigured in the future as needs and technology change.

The Fast Fare is accessible for people with disabilities, including riders with limited manual dexterity or vision impairment. Audible feedback and multilingual instructions assist riders with boarding.

The Fast Fare is designed to allow routine maintenance and restocking of media while in service without the need for tools. Security systems protect data and cash and prevent loss and dual power systems reduce downtime.
