Authorizing the City Manager to submit a grant application in the amount of $112,800.00 to the U.S. Department of Justice Programs for the purpose of funding the FY2024 Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant. The funds will be utilized to replace 120 vests that have exceeded the recommended life expectancy. If awarded the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program will provide funding in the amount of $56,400.00 with the other 50% of the project being provided by city match. Grant funding will be accounted for in the Special Police Fund.

BACKGROUND
The Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP), created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998 is a unique U.S. Department of Justice initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law enforcement to help save the lives of law enforcement officers by providing funds to support the purchase of bulletproof vests. Since 1999, the BVP program has awarded more than 13,000 jurisdictions, with a total of $573 million in federal funds for the purchase of over 1.5 million body armor vests.
