BACKGROUND

The Texas Department of State Health Services continues to contract with the City of Laredo to provide public health services to residents of Laredo and Webb County
through the City of Laredo Public Health Department. The contract allows the Public Health Department to provide HIV prevention services. Human immunodeficiency virus prevention services ensure HIV awareness and prevention for persons at greatest risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV infection. The City of Laredo Public Health Department HIV Prevention Project is a model evidence-based prevention and health promotion service which consists of innovation, coordination, and collaboration; some basic fundamentals in prevention for testing, preventive care, education and outreach. The project serves qualifying residents in the Duval, Jim Hogg, Webb and Zapata counties.
