PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
Resolution 2022-R-080 was brought and approved by City Council on April 19, 2022 for authorization to apply for the FY22 RAISE grant program for the expansion of the World Trade Bridge. At the time, The City had yet to receive a presidential permit and application was automatically disqualified.

BACKGROUND
On November 1, 2024 the U.S. Department of Transportation released a grant opportunity under the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability & Equity (RAISE) grant program, merit-based, a competitive discretionary grant program for surface transportation infrastructure and planning grants. In September 2021, Council approved to move forward with the expansion project for the World Trade Bridge. The project calls for a new 8 lane bridge span down-river adjacent to, as well as 2 additional lanes connected to existing span. A presidential permit was issued on May 31, 2024 allowing for the construction of the additional bridge. Consultants who have been contracted estimate the project to cost $28,955,837.68. The grant application is being submitted to help fund construction.
