BACKGROUND

The Texas Department of Transportation has made a grant titled Selective Traffic
Enforcement Program (STEP) available to the Laredo Police Department. STEP grant
funding assists in paying for overtime activities by local law enforcement and should focus on reducing the incidences of speeding, driving while intoxicated, failure to use restraint systems, intersection traffic control violations and enforcement of state and local ordinances on cellular and texting devices. Officers conducting enforcement on a STEP-Commercial Motor Vehicle grant should make enforcement of Impaired Driving, Occupant Protection, Speed, Hazardous Moving Violations and Distracted Driving their priority during enforcement.
