BACKGROUND

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021 appropriated $550 million for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program assists local and tribal governments in planning and implementing programs and policies to reduce energy use, reduce fossil fuel emissions and improve energy efficiency. Under the EECBG program the City of Laredo is eligible to receive $271,290.00 in funding. The Environmental Services Department has developed a general plan for distribution/use of these funds in the following categories: Replacement of downtown decorative street lighting and solar trash compactors.
