PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
On February 11, 2025, City Council authorized the City Manager to enter into a contract in the estimated amount of $140,105.37 with the Webb County Elections Office / Administrator for the purpose of conducting a Bond Election in the City of Laredo on May 3, 2025, including early voting from April 22, 2025 through April 29, 2025.
On February 11, 2025, City Council approved Ordinance 2025-O-21 calling the Bond Election for the following propositions: Proposition A: $271,160,000 for public safety, Proposition B: $70,890,000 for public healthcare; Proposition C: $65,000,000 for streets; and Proposition D: $10,000,000 for affordable housing.
BACKGROUND
The Bond Referendum Committee started meeting on September 30, 2025 at which time members were appointed to the Enhancement Services Sub-Committee, Public Safety Sub-Committee, Health & Wellness Sub-Committee, and Public Infrastructure Sub-Committee. Then, all sub-committees started meeting with their designated liaisons to hear presentations from the different city departments. All Bond Referendum Sub-Committees made bond referendum recommendations to the Bond Referendum Main Committee on January 14, 2025, which then voted to make final bond recommendations to the City Council. On February 11, 2025, City Council approved Ordinance 2025-O-21 calling the Bond Election.
