BACKGROUND

The Office of the Governor, Public Safety Office, Criminal Justice Division released the funding announcement for Body-Worn Camera Grant Program FY2026. The purpose of this grant is to equip peace officers with body-worn cameras and help further the department's mission by promoting safety of law enforcement officers and citizens. This grant will provide the funding to augment the Laredo Police Department highly successful Body-Worn Camera Program (BWC). The BWC Program has remained a top priority and key component of the department's commitment towards maintaining public trust and transparency. State funds for these projects are authorized under the Texas General Appropriations Act, Article I, Rider 35 for Trustee Programs within the Office of the Governor. All awards are subject to availability of appropriated funds and any modifications or additional requirements that maybe imposed by law.
