PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION

On April 19, 2022, the Laredo Transit Mass Board approved a resolution to approve the Laredo Transit Management Inc, (LTMI) Title VI Program Plan and authorized the City Manager and staff to submit the Title VI Program Plan to the Federal Transit Administration and to the Texas Department of Transportation.

 

BACKGROUND

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in programs and activities of any entity that receives federal or state assistance. Other related regulations prohibit discrimination based on sex, age, and disabilities. The Federal Transit Administration and the Texas Department of Transportation works to ensure nondiscriminatory transportation in support of the mission to enhance the social and economic quality of life for all the public. The FTA and TxDOT Office of Civil Rights is responsible for monitoring all federal and state recipients’ Title VI Program Plan to ensure their compliance with Title VI requirements.
