BACKGROUND

The Laredo Police Department is in need of additional Sergeant positions and a Captain position in order to fulfill the span of control in the Police Department, and the ratio of sworn officers to population.  The proposed council item is to reclassify thirteen (13) vacant Police Cadet FTE positions to create one (1) Captain FTE position and twelve (12) Sergeant FTE positions to the existing manpower in the Laredo Police Department.  The supervisor positions will be filled in the customary manner as set forth by the City of Laredo Firefighters’ and Police Officers’ Civil Service Commission, the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement and the City of Laredo.
