Title: Authorizing the City Manager to submit a grant application in the amount of $165,422.00 to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Program. If awarded, this grant will provide funding to purchase 2,000 smoke detectors for the Smoke Detector Distribution Campaign and to purchase fire and arson investigation personal protective equipment and media equipment for a one year grant period. There is a cost share requirement in an amount equal to not less than 5% of the grant award. The grant will be accounted for in the Special Fire Grants Fund.

PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION

The City of Laredo City Council approved the submission of the FY 2022 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant through 2023-R-079 on 04/17/2023.

 

BACKGROUND

If granted, the Fire Prevention and Safety Grant will purchase 2,000 smoke detectors and cover overtime for personnel to install the smoke detectors for the Smoke Detector Distribution Campaign.  In addition, the department has also requested $51,422.00 to purchase personal protective equipment and media equipment for Fire and Arson Investigators.
