A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Laredo, Texas, authorizing the City Manager to ratify the acceptance of a grant in the amount of $32,257.76 from the Office of the Governor, Public Safety Office, Criminal Justice Division for the FY2025 General Victim Assistance Program Grant through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA). The grant performance period is from October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025; this grant will fund training and supplies affiliated with the grant program. The City of Laredo will be responsible for the required match of $8,064.44, from General Fund, for a grant total of $40,322.20. Funding is available in the Special Police Fund.

BACKGROUND
This General Victim Assistance Program Grant is offered through the Office of the Governor, Public Safety Office, Criminal Justice Division. The purpose of this program is to provide services and assistance directly to victims of crime to speed their recovery and aid them through the criminal justice process. Services may include: responding to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims; assisting victims in stabilizing their lives after a victimization; assisting victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system; and providing victims with safety and security. Federal funding is authorized for these projects under the Victims of Crime Act of 1984 (VOCA) and under the Violence Against Women Act of 2013. All awards are subject to the availability of appropriated federal funds and any modifications or additional requirements that may be imposed by law.
