BACKGROUND
The City of Laredo Public Health Department, Division of Animal Control is amending Chapter 6 “animals and Fowl” Articles I, II, and VII to address the responsibilities of the veterinarians and the fee collection. Animal Services is committed to protecting the health, safety, and general welfare of its residents, visitors, and animals within its jurisdiction. The City of Laredo Public Health Department, Division of Animal Control has reviewed Articles I (In General), II (Rabies Control) and VII (Applications, Registrations, Permits, Fees) of Chapter 6 “Animals and Fowl” and identified a need to revise and update the definitions, provisions, and regulatory framework related to vaccinations and associated public health measures and seeks to ensure consistency with current state law, public health standards, and veterinary practices, and to provide clearer guidance to animal owners and enforcement authorities. These amendments are intended to enhance public safety, improve the effectiveness of rabies control efforts, promote responsible pet ownership, and ensure humane treatment of animals.
