Title: An ordinance authorizing the City Manager to execute a lease agreement between the Laredo International Airport and the City Of Laredo Police Department for approximately 15,000 square feet constituting warehouse and office space situated within a 3.0-acre tract of land located at 5508 Thomas Avenue, Laredo, Webb County, Texas situated on property described as Block No. 1, of the subdivision plat of Laredo Airport according to the map or plat thereof recorded in Volume 5, Page 1, Plat Records of Webb County, Texas. Lease term shall be for a total of five (5) years, with three options to extend this lease, with each option being an additional five (5) years, commencing on February 1, 2026. Initial monthly rent shall be $8,676.23 a month and will be adjusted annually according to changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI); and providing for an effective date.

This lease is strongly with the Comprehensive Plan by activating existing infrastructure, strengthening public safety operations, protecting airport revenue, preventing airspace or environmental hazards, and promoting efficient municipal land use in the airport trade corridor.

BACKGROUND

The Laredo International Airport owns the property and building located on 5508 Thomas Avenue. The Laredo Police Department has proposed the Airport a new lease agreement between both departments for the purposes of expanding LPD’s operational space.

The Laredo Police Department has been a tenant in good standing with the Airport for many years. The proposed lease would be for a total of five (5) years, with three options to extend this lease, with each option being an additional five (5) years, commencing on February 1, 2026. Initial monthly rent shall be $8,676.23 a month and will be adjusted annually according to changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

It is in the best interest for both the Laredo Police Department and the Laredo International Airport that this lease be approved.
