BACKGROUND

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is accepting project proposals to support the targets and strategies of its traffic safety program to reduce the number of motor vehicle related crashes, fatalities, and serious injuries in Texas.  Organizations eligible for General Traffic Safety grants include state and local governments, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations.  Authority and Responsibility for funding of the traffic safety grant program derives from the National Highway Safety Act of 1966 (23 USC §401, et. seq.), and the Texas Traffic Safety Act of 1967 (Transportation Code, Chapter 723).  General Traffic Safety grants are non-enforcement projects which address highway safety programs.
