BACKGROUND

The City of Laredo, in partnership with TAMIU, provided an opportunity to City of Laredo employees to participate in the second cohort of the Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program. Prior to this partnership with TAMIU, the City of Laredo had participated in the Certified Public Manager Program in partnership with Texas State University, which originally started in 2004.

The CPM program is a nationally accredited comprehensive management development program open to managers in federal, state, and local government agencies. The program's primary goal is to improve the performance of public sector managers and the organizational performance of state, local and federal governments.

The CPM program requires completion of a 300 hour course of study comprised of a series of seven tracks, or courses, designed to enhance the skills, knowledge, and abilities of public managers in the following areas: Public Personnel Administration, Managing for Quality, Organization Communication, Public Finance and Budgeting, Productivity and Program Evaluation, Information Systems for Managers and the capstone for the course Applied Project Practicum.
