BACKGROUND

El Metro is teaming up with transportation agencies nationwide to celebrate the 18th Annual National "Dump the Pump" Day on Sunday, June 30, 2024, by offering free rides on all El Metro transit mobility services such as fixed-route services and the El Lift Paratransit services. The day is dedicated to raising community awareness whereas public transportation can save people money, promote walking ability, and reduce the harmful greenhouse gases emitted into our environment. The National "Dump the Pump" campaign is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) , which first started National "Dump the Pump" Day in June 2006 when gas prices had reached $3 per gallon and the public demand for public transportation was growing in response to high gas prices. El Metro wants the public to recognize that riding public transit is an economical way to save money, particularly when gas prices are high. Public transportation does not just help people save money, it also helps communities grow and prosper. Additionally, public transportation helps to make a community economically strong and competitive. For example, for every $1 makes a community economically strong and competitive.
