BACKGROUND

The Department of Health and Human Services continues to contract with the City of Laredo Public Health Department to provide intensive behavioral health services in the Webb County region. Through the Laredo Assisted Outreach Treatment Program (AOT), the City of Laredo Public Health Department is able to improve access and adherence to intensive behavioral health services and focus on providing intensive case management, outreach services, HIV/STD testing, education, risk reduction, as well as primary care for individuals with serious mental health conditions.

Summary of alignment: This resolution aligns with the Viva Laredo Comprehensive Plan by supporting the continuation of intensive behavioral health services for individuals with serious mental health conditions through the Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) Program. The no-cost extension ensures uninterrupted access to case management, outreach, behavioral health services, primary care, and health education while improving treatment adherence and care coordination. These efforts advance the Plan’s goals of expanding access to mental health services, improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations, and strengthening community-based public health partnerships.
