BACKGROUND
The City Council of the City of Laredo recognizes the need to restructure its advisory committees to better serve the community’s evolving needs and priorities.
The Third-Party Advisory Funding Committee, established by motion on June 5, 2000, has fulfilled its intended purpose and is no longer necessary. The City Council desires to establish a new Civic Partnership and Engagement Advisory Committee to promote civic engagement, foster community partnerships, and provide advisory recommendations on matters impacting the citizens of Laredo.
The establishment of the Civic Partnership and Engagement Advisory Committee is in the best interest of the City and its residents. Dissolution of the third-Party Advisory Funding Committee.
Establishing the Civic Partnership and Engagement Advisory Committee, herein referred to as the “Civic Engagement Committee.” The Civic Partnership and Engagement Advisory Committee aims to foster a vibrant and engaged community in Laredo by strengthening collaboration between nonprofit organizations, volunteers, and civic initiatives. The Committee will enhance the City’s support for local nonprofits and civic engagement efforts through rigorous evaluation of funding applications and promotion of volunteerism.
Membership and Appointments
1. The Civic Engagement Committee shall consist of 9 members appointed by the Mayor and City Council, representing a diverse cross-section of the community.
2. Members shall serve for a term of 2 years, with the option for reappointment for a period defined for all citizen members.
3. A Chair and Vice-Chair shall be elected by the members of the Civic Engagement Committee at the first meeting of each calendar year.
Meetings
1. The Civic Engagement Committee shall meet a minimum of quarterly and may convene more often as necessary at the discretion of the Chair.
2. All meetings shall be conducted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and other applicable laws.
Reporting
The Civic Engagement Committee shall provide periodic reports to the City Council, including recommendations, findings, and any actions taken.
Funding and Support
The City Manager or designee shall provide administrative support, resources, and funding as necessary to facilitate the work of the Civic Engagement Committee.
