BACKGROUND
Interest earnings are being appropriated in order to pay for expenses on new projects and upgrades.
1. New irrigation system at Colombia Solidarity (Bridge 3)
a. An irrigation system is essential for Bridge 3 to maintain the safety, upkeep, and appearance of landscaped areas. Due to high temperatures in Laredo, consistent irrigation is necessary to sustain healthy vegetation. As an international port of entry, the facility reflects the city and contributes positively to the department and community.
2. Elevator modernization for 2 elevator units located at Gateway to the Americas (Bridge 1)
a. The two existing elevator units are over 20 years old and have reached the end of their service life. Aging components have led to reliability issues, frequent interruptions, and increased maintenance, with parts now outdated and difficult to source. Modernization is needed to meet current safety standards, improve efficiency, and ensure reliable operation for the public and staff.
